Since its founding in 1947, the Italian Geotechnical Society, Italian member of ISSMGE, has been devoted to promoting, sustaining and coordinating research works and studies on soil characteristics related to engineering problems. In particular, the Society has committed itself to the following tasks:
In order to accomplish these objectives the Association regularly organizes meetings, conferences and seminars, it promotes the training of groups of local and regional members , it assures the presence of its representatives in Bodies, Committees, Commission, Meetings and Conferences; it also promotes the publication and dissemination of geotechnical studies by collecting information, data and findings.
AGI has been at the forefront in expanding geotechnical knowledge. The society regularly organizes national and international conferences and a number of workshops in order to facilitate academic and technological exchanges among members. In recent years, AGI has hosted a number of important Conferences, among which, the Second International Workshop on Evaluation of Eurocode 7 (Pavia 2010), the International Symposium on Geotechnical Aspects of Underground Construction in Soft Ground (Roma 2011), the International Conference on Performance-Based Design in Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering (Taormina 2012), the E-UNSAT European Conference on Unsaturated Soils (Napoli 2012), the International Symposium on Geotechnical Engineering for the Preservation of Monuments and Historic Sites (Napoli 2013), Coupled Phenomena in Environmental Geotechnics (CPEG) (Torino 2013), Workshop on Volcanic Rocks & Soils (Isle of Ischia 2015), the International Symposium on Landslides (Napoli 2016) and the 7th lnternational Conference on Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering (VII ICEGE) (Roma 2019).
